NFTs take in-game ownership to a new level, says Blokhaus founder

Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) have taken the gaming world by storm. Whether or not it is via restricted version collectibles, avatar enhancement, or play-to-earn incentives, digital property have introduced new that means to in-game possession.

The methods through which NFTs are becoming more and more concretely available to players. In the case of Blockxer, Blokhaus Inc.'s latest blockchain game, every component of the game has been NFT-ized and can be modified by users.

Mark Soares, the founder of Blokhaus Inc., told Cointelegraph that when every aspect of the game is an NFT, users can create fully "customized" gaming experiences. Everywhere a user spins in this 8-bit arcade-inspired game, there's an NFT - from the background and characters to weapons and more:

“Imagine being able to create your own characters in your own scene and gift or sell these mods to other players as an NFT pack.”

NFTs allow users to unlock fully modular, community-driven in-game experiences that they own the parts for. Soares compares this adaptation of an NFT-driven game like Blockxer to '90s mixtapes, saying it puts the "power of game creation in the hands of the player."

As explained by Soares, Blockxer's design is fairly simplistic, reminiscent of pixelated arcade games of the 1990s. It highlights the crypto meme culture and features characters like a zombie doge.

Although the game design is simple, Soares said that doesn't mean the NFT's utilities have to be simple as well. In fact, he said that thinking about NFTs too simply is a problem in the blockchain gaming industry.

"Usually [they’re] just add-ons, rewards or badges for games that you can buy - we think they can and should be a lot more."

This is just the beginning of NFT's integration into the gaming world. Recently, MyMetaverse and Enjin games have started implementing NFTs in popular games like Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto 5 servers.

Other gaming giants like SEGA games have recently shown interest in blockchain games and their features.
